Tom Mann (bottom centre, wearing glasses) headed the strike committee, which was formed by himself and the dozen men surrounding him. These 13 men represented all workers involved in the dispute. Mann was, on one occasion, responsible for 85,000 people gathering outside St. George’s Hall and along Lime Street to hear him speak. Over 300 people were injured and two people were killed when trouble broke out between protestors and armed troops.
