Officers awaiting orders from their superiors in the courtyard of the old police headquarters on Dale Street. Unprecedented amounts of unrest saw commerce in Liverpool come to a near standstill in the middle of 1911. As many as 3000 servicemen were gathered from all parts of the country to be deployed in the city during this time, as the large crowds that gathered on a regular basis proved tough to deal with.

Photograph taken in the summer of 1911.
